Week 5
Introduction: In this blog post we read “Hills Like White Elephants” and were faced with a question and had to decide based off of the information presented to us throughout the story. That question being, do you think that the woman decided to keep the child, and do you think she left her boyfriend or not? Argument: This story takes place in at a railroad junction between Barcelona, and Madrid in 1927. There is a male and a female and they sat down for a drink while they waited for the train. As they are drinking they get into a discussion about their baby, as we figured out from context clues throughout the story. The discussion is whether or not they should keep the child that they accidentally brought upon themselves. The male seems to not want the woman to keep the baby, and even says “I think it's the best thing to do” talking about getting an abortion, but insists many time “I don't want you to do it if you really don't want to.” The woman on the other hand seems like she does want to keep the child by the way she talks to the male throughout the story. For these reason I think that she ended up keeping the child, and leaving the man.
